"Rubén Morones has developed therapeutic cocktails, made from a combination of silver and antibiotics, which enhance the effect of existing antibiotics which are increasingly plagued by bacterial resistance. His proposal could be the answer to counteract resistant infectious diseases and transform their treatment worldwide. Furthermore, the process developed by Rubén increases the effectiveness of antibiotics without increasing the cost of the drug.

The antimicrobial properties of silver have been known for centuries and were used by ancient civilizations such as the Mayans and Aztecs. This young researcher has developed a mechanism that uses silver´s potential to enhance antibiotics and make them up to 1,000 times more effective against bacteria.

In recent years, the World Health Organization has warned how more and more bacteria are ""immune"" to all or almost all antibiotics available today on the market. This new therapy could prove to be one of the solutions to treat these diseases and save many lives.

José Rubén, a serial entrepreneur, founded his first start-up, Biopristine, thanks to the prize he won with his first patent, the use of silver nanoparticles to fight bacteria. He then went on to found Chrysalis, a bioplastics company, and Enbiotix, through which he is marketing his advances in biotech antibiotics."
