Sustainability in the fashion industry is an increasingly urgent and central issue driven by growing concerns about the environmental and social impact of this sector, which is known to be one of the most polluting in the world due to unsustainable production practices and rapid consumption cycles.

Seeking a solution to this problem, designer and researcher Iane Cabral founded Plasma, a bioinnovation startup that creates regenerative materials from biofabrication and organic cultivation from a circular fashion perspective. Iane is also the founder of Sector W, an experimental research lab in wearable technologies with a focus on wearable electronics, creative computing, 3D printing and biomaterials. Since 2018, she has been researching the use of kombucha biotissue.

Iane began her education in art and design at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), and her most recent education is in product design at IBMR Laureate, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to developing her skills and knowledge in the field of design. In 2023, she has already won two awards, winning the Fab Island Challenge as part of the Kopernik team in Indonesia and winning a skills scholarship at the Bali Fab Fest promoted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
