Changliu Liu focuses on advanced robotics for Manufacturing 5.0. She and her team are pioneering a new paradigm of human-AI collaboration by integrating generative AI into product and prototype design.
To enhance interactivity and alignment between human designers and generative AI, she led the development of advanced algorithms. Once a design is finalized, dual-arm robots equipped with intelligent planning algorithms can autonomously assemble products. During the process, the robots interact with human designers to further refine design details. These innovations promise to revolutionize assembly design by streamlining creativity without compromising precision or safety.
In parallel, her team is exploring how to compress entire supply chains into a single shipping container: raw materials enter at one end, and fully assembled, palletized products exit at the other. The result is two container-sized systems, each equipped with four robotic arms, capable of producing a pallet of masks per hour—marking a significant milestone in autonomous manufacturing. These self-sufficient systems can be deployed globally, minimizing the risks associated with long supply chains.
Building on years of research, Changliu co-founded Instinct Robotics to deliver intelligent robotic solutions for precision manufacturing. The company currently focuses on complex surface treatment in high-mix, low-volume production lines and has already received orders from major manufacturers, including Siemens Energy.
Her work is poised to redefine global manufacturing, significantly boost productivity, and reduce reliance on human labor for repetitive and demanding tasks.
