After earning multiple degrees in the field of physics, the Spaniard Andrés Castellanos has turned his attention to the development of new, two-dimensional materials with his research team at the Materials Science Institute of Madrid. Castellanos’ current research seeks to address our population’s increasing energy demands through the development of transparent and flexible solar cells. He anticipates that the realization of this type of solar cell will allow for both large scale energy harvesting as well as for powering small, autonomous devices, feats that he deems invaluable to our society.
